About
An introduction to the Liverpool Music Club

Liverpool has always made an impressive mark when it comes to music.  Through the bygone ages of the 1950 Merseybeat sound to the British Beat Boom, Liverpool has always offered something and will never be forgotten.

The first Liverpudlian to ever have a number 1 was Lita Roza with ‘How Much is that Doggy in the Window’, who inherited her musical knowledge from her Spanish born father.  (Possibly not the best record ever, but a number 1 none the less.)  Since then Liverpool artists have always had a predominant fixture in the world’s music industry.

Then came the 1960s, a decade dominated by a band that doesn’t need naming (but for the sake of anyone who has been buried in a box for the past 50 years I will) The Beatles, who still to this day help support the Liverpool economy.  But still, they weren’t the only ones to hit the charts.

Other artists to have a number 1 were; The Searchers, Gerry and The Pacemakers, Billy J Kramer and the Dakotas, Cilla Black and even Ken Dodd (although how credible this is i’m not sure)

The 1970’s saw Deaf School become popular with the folk fans and Toxteth’s The Real Thing were the biggest selling black group throughout the decade.  And for those who are lucky enough to remember Eric’s Nightclub, would have seen the likes of Holly Johnson, Ian Broudie, Ian McCulloch, Pete Wylie and Julian Cope perform on the stage.  The club exploded in the 1980’s as The Lightning Seeds and Pete Wylie hit the charts and Liverpool gave birth to Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Echo and the Bunnymen.  Meanwhile The Picket became the centre focus for a lot of Liverpool’s most successful bands and The La’s released an album that went on to influence the artists and music of the next decade.

The 1990s saw the introduction of a warehouse situated in the centre of Liverpool on Wolstenholme Square, home to one of the most famous clubs in the world, YES you guessed it! CREAM.  Dance was dominating the club land but still bands were prevailing in the charts including; The Lightning Seeds, Cast, Space, The Boo Radleys and a returning Echo and The Bunnymen

This leads us into the 21st Century and Liverpool’s music scene is stronger than ever.  The Coral, The Bandits, Ladytron and Hokum Clones are all helping to support the scene, and of course who could forget Atomic Kitten!

Liverpool now plays host to some of the best up-and-coming talent and the city is thriving.  If you are a band with a mission to be the next best thing to come out of Liverpool this group is for you.  We want bands with talent and the drive to become something special to join this group for the benefit of the people of Liverpool and for other bands to look for influences.  So let’s start a community and help keep Liverpool on the map.
